Get 3 or more of the same color in a row, and the track shortens. Carefully operate the stone frog idol of the ancient Zuma to launch colored balls to match colors with a moving track of balls. Do I recommend it? I dunno I'm giving it the thumbs up because it's not a bad game per se, but compared to the following entries in the franchise, it feels pretty barebones.Test your abilities in this thrilling action puzzler. Obviously, this is a casual game, and it's all done for a relaxing experience.Īnyway, that's it for my Bejeweled review. As for the soundtrack, well, there's a somewhat relaxing track that plays continuously as you play. In the visual department, the game is obviously dated, it doesn't look very good on modern screens, but it's still playable. Other than that, it plays similar to Normal mode, you fill the bar to advance levels, but in this case, running out of moves only resets the board, and game over is only reached when you run out of time. Meanwhile, Time Attack starts with the progress bar halfway filled, though it decreases over time. Higher levels require more matches, and the goal is to reach as high a score as possible before you run out of moves. This game is the most basic form of the match-3 genre there is, as there's no special gems, matching 4 or more gems of the same colour only gives you slightly more points, and the game modes are only two: in Normal mode, you advance levels by filling up a bar on the bottom of the screen this progress bar gets filled as you match gems. The complexity in the game is that, depending on how you match the gems, you can create cascades that eliminate even more gems also, given its random nature, there's always a risk of ending up in a situation where there's no more moves left to make, as you can't match any three gems. When you do so, the matched gems disappear, and new gems fall in place to replace them. The gameplay is quite simple: you play on a square board filled with different coloured and shaped gems, and you can swap any two adjacent gems in order to match three of the same colours. The match-3 genre of casual games might very well be the quintessential casual game, with thousands of variations (or rather, copy cats) all over the world. Anyway, enough talking about other Bejeweled games, and let's talk about this Bejeweled game, which I got because I wanted to complete my Bejeweled collection.Īt this point, pretty much everyone is familiar with Bejeweled, even if they don't know it by name. #BEJEWELED 2 DELUXE ENDING SERIES#As a whole, the Bejeweled is a very fun series to get into and I recommend checking out some other games that are similar if the age of this game is a turnoff factor for you.īejeweled, if you've played one, you've played them all, but not really, since, as the series progressed, new game modes and mechanics were added, and there's even a spin-off in the form of Bejeweled Twist, which doesn't play like traditional Bejeweled at all (ok, you still have to match three, it's just that you don't run out of moves). As for the gameplay itself, it still holds up fairly well even today, and the randomization of the levels make for good replayability. If you want to start playing the games in an evolution kind of fashion, this is obviously where you should start. Such as in Bejeweled 2, you have the main "classic" and timed modes, but in addition to those 2 modes, B2 introduced the Puzzle and Endless modes. As for the first installment in the main trilogy, it introduces the core gameplay and mechanics that the later titles put additional twists on. Such a simple yet ever-so-addictive set of games I literally put days upon days worth in effort of just simply beating my previous high scores to see how far I could go.
